Integrated safety as standard
ARS 2000 FS servo controllers are equipped with modern safety functions such as STO and SS1 as standard. These functions ensure that safety-related requirements can be met directly in the drive – without the need for external safety modules or additional wiring. This not only increases machine safety, but also significantly reduces planning and installation costs. Users benefit from a reliable and economical safety concept.
Numerous integrated software functions make the ARS 2000 FS servo controllers true all-rounders in drive technology.
Not only do the ARS 2000 FS servo controllers directly support numerous motor types and all common position encoders, they can also be adapted extremely flexibly to a wide range of application tasks by simply parameterizing the integrated technology functions. The precise and highly accurate evaluation of external signals in the drive enables the shortest possible cycle times to be achieved.

Always on board is the field-proven CANopen fieldbus system with the CiA 402 drive profile. With the operating modes Profile Torque Mode, Profile Velocity Mode, Profile Position Mode, Homing Mode, and Interpolated Position Mode, the servo controller can be used in a wide variety of applications. Several hundred parameters enable complete configuration of the servo controller via CANopen.
The integrated Ethernet interface can be used via a UDP/IP connection, for example, for remote maintenance or as a fieldbus connection. This allows the transmission of setpoints and actual values, error analysis, loading and saving of parameter sets, adjusting individual parameters, and displaying values using the oscilloscope function.
All ARS 2000 FS devices feature the Ethernet-based EtherCAT fieldbus system. With the CoE (CANopen over EtherCAT) application protocol, all operating modes and parameters of CANopen can also be used under EtherCAT. In multi-axis applications, highly synchronized movements are achieved in the “Cyclic Synchronous Position” mode in combination with Distributed Clocks (DC), even at high cycle times, as the servo controllers synchronize precisely to the external clock.
The Ethernet-based PROFINET fieldbus system is also already fundamentally integrated. Based on PROFIdrive, the Metronix-specific application profile enables easy access to all functions of the servo controller. Ready-to-use function blocks and a sample project make integrating the smartServo into the control system a real breeze. The plain-text display of error messages in the control system also greatly simplifies initial commissioning, allowing the machine or system to be ready for operation more quickly.
Profibus enables stable and fast real-time data transmission. With flexible topologies, systems of various sizes can be efficiently networked and monitored. Users continue to rely heavily on Profibus, as it allows the use of proven devices and infrastructures.
Heidenhain encoders with EnDat interface feature a serial communication channel through which the servo controller communicates with the encoder. All relevant information from the encoder’s electronic nameplate is read out via this channel, eliminating the need for manual parameterization. If the encoder used also has an EEPROM, motor information can be stored in the encoder, allowing the motor to be used directly with another servo controller. The ARS 2000 FS supports EnDat 2.2 encoders as both singleturn and multiturn versions.
Just like Heidenhain encoders, HIPERFACE encoders feature a communication channel through which the servo controller communicates with the encoder. All relevant information is also read out from the encoder, and motor information can likewise be stored in the encoder. All common HIPERFACE singleturn and multiturn encoders are supported.
With the single-cable technology HIPERFACE DSL®, the encoder signal is transmitted digitally within the motor cable. This minimizes the number of connection lines required between the servo controller and the motor. Naturally, all features of the HIPERFACE encoders (electronic nameplate, data storage in the encoder) are also available with HIPERFACE DSL®.
The universal encoder interface supports a wide variety of different encoders: both analog 1Vss signals and digital incremental signals, including reference track or zero pulse, are supported. For commutation, digital Hall signals can also be evaluated, and a fault signal input can additionally be connected. One of the encoder inputs can also be used as a pulse-direction input or forward/reverse counting input.
Of course, the resolver is also supported by the ARS 2000 FS as a robust and cost-effective position sensor.
The FSM 2.0 – STO is an optional safety module for ARS 2000 FS servo controllers and implements the Safe Torque Off (STO) function. This function disconnects the drive power in a dual-channel manner, ensuring that no hazardous torque can occur. It meets safety requirements up to SIL 3 / PL e and is TÜV-certified.
FSM 2.0 – MOV expands the ARS 2000 FS controllers with modular safety and monitoring functions in accordance with current standards. With functions such as STO, SS1, SS2, SOS, or SLS, it enables highly safe motion control up to SIL 3 / PL e. Thanks to its modular design, safety and fieldbus options can be flexibly combined — ensuring maximum safety with minimal integration effort.
The ARS 2000 FS HDSL expands the proven ARS servo positioning controller series with seamless integration of the digital feedback system HIPERFACE DSL® (HDSL). Data transmission takes place directly via the motor cable – including encoder data and power supply – significantly reducing installation effort and system costs. In addition, the device maintains full compatibility with standard encoders such as EnDat or resolvers and enables the storage of important parameters such as pole pair count or current values directly in the encoder – for even more flexible commissioning and maintenance.
This module expands the servo controllers with powerful EtherCAT and CANopen connectivity (CAN over EtherCAT). It enables fast and secure integration into common automation networks, offering real-time capability, flexible parameterization, and extensive diagnostic functions. This makes it an ideal choice for modular machine designs and highly dynamic applications.
The PROFIBUS module allows direct integration of the ARS 2000 FS servo controllers into existing PROFIBUS-DP networks. It supports common profiles, ensures stable communication with the PLC, and enables parameterization and diagnostics via standard tools. Users benefit from a robust and widely used fieldbus solution for industrial environments.
The PROFINET module integrates ARS 2000 FS servo controllers into modern PROFINET networks and enables high-performance real-time communication. It offers full support for common engineering tools such as Siemens TIA Portal or S7, including function blocks for easy project planning. This makes integration especially efficient and future-proof.
The Ethernet module expands the ARS 2000 FS series with a simple RJ45 Ethernet interface. Via UDP tunnels, devices can be conveniently commissioned, parameterized, and monitored – for example, using the ServoCommander. This makes the module ideal for flexible system architectures with direct Ethernet connectivity.
