Metronix
Company History

Founding

Metronix was founded in 1976 by Dr. Rüdiger Karmann in Braunschweig. The company’s initial focus was on the development of electromagnetic measuring instruments for geophysical applications – a field that has once again become highly relevant today. These instruments are used in the exploration of natural resources, such as new deposits of oil, gas, or ores. Metronix is the world’s second-largest manufacturer of this specialized technology.

1976

New Business Area

At the end of the 1980s, Metronix invested in a new business area and became one of the first companies in Germany to develop digital servo drives for controlling the speed of electric motors. Today, this business area represents the main focus of Metronix.

1987

Acquisition by Cooper Industries

Metronix was fully acquired by Cooper Industries and became part of the Cooper Power Tools division. Cooper Industries, a globally operating American company, had already maintained a long-standing supplier relationship with Metronix. Among other products, Metronix develops and manufactures specialized servo drives for fastening applications in the automotive industry. These are integrated by Cooper Power Tools into tightening and assembly systems. More than 25,000 Metronix servo drives are already successfully in use at engine and axle assembly stations of all major automotive manufacturers.

The Ant Principle –
small, intelligent, powerful

The ant symbolizes maximum efficiency in minimal size, intelligent cooperation, and the ability to accomplish complex tasks in a highly scalable way as part of a swarm.

This very principle is reflected in the architecture and application of Metronix servo drive solutions. Each individual servo drive operates as an autonomous, highly intelligent drive unit.
